ASPPH Meets with Senate Labor-HHS Staff to Advocate for Academic Public Health

Last week, ASPPH’s Advocacy team met with both the majority and minority Senate Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (Labor-HHS-ED) Subcommittee staff members to emphasize the need for robust support for ASPPH’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 priorities for academic public health. We continue to prioritize agencies under the Labor-HHS-ED Subcommittee through our FY 2025 advocacy efforts and beyond.

During last week’s meeting, our advocacy team highlighted priorities specifically for programs administered by four key public health agencies including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H).

Labor-HHS-ED staff members discussed the funding caps put in place in last year’s debt limit deal and explained how the Appropriations Committee will be limited in its ability to increase funding for public health programs.
