ASPPH-webinar-SCOTUS decision on race and admissions

This webinar will provide an update on the SCOTUS decision on affirmative action and what it means for the Academic Public Health community. It will also expand on resources provided by the Departments of Education and Justice and discuss future directions for ASPPH members in this new era of admissions, including SOPHAS, the centralized application service for public health.

Moderator and Panelists

Monique Dixon
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Office for Civil Rights, US Department of Education
Monique will discuss the Department’s position and their latest activities on the issue of admissions diversity, and expand on the latest guidance/resources for universities.

Peter McDonough
Vice President and General Counsel, American Council on Education (ACE)
Peter will give a high-level overview of what the SCOTUS decision means broadly for higher education and future directions for universities and higher education groups/stakeholders.

F. DuBois Bowman, Ph.D.
Dean, University of Michigan School of Public Health
DuBois will provide an example of his school’s approach and opportunities/challenges at the school of public health (SPH) level.

Director of Recruitment and Admissions
Johnston will provide the SOPHAS perspective, an update on ASPPH’s efforts on holistic admissions, and what’s next for ASPPH members.
