Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice

We are committed to making diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice fundamental to everything we do in academic public health.

Dismantling racism and structural racism in academic public health

Racism is a public health crisis that demands bold action on many fronts, including in academic public health. ASPPH and our Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited schools and programs of public health are dedicated to dismantling structural racism and ending the cultural, structural, and systemic conditions that enable racism in academic public health institutions. Take action and read our Framework for Dismantling Racism and Structural Racism in Academic Public Health.

Advancing the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice Journey at ASPPH

Transforming Academia for Equity(TAE)

Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Transforming Academia for Equity serves as a collaborative initiative currently serving seven (7) ASPPH member schools and programs of public health. TAE enables schools to transform academic spaces to be equitable and inclusive for the benefit of faculty, staff, and students.

Diversifying the Public Health Workforce

ASPPH is dedicated to identifying and creating educational pathways to attract, recruit, train, and retain a diverse public health workforce.

Justice in Student Enrollment and Admissions

ASPPH has numerous resources, trainings, and tools for members to create mission-aligned admissions and advocate for inclusive recruitment practices. In response to the June 2023 SCOTUS decision reversing affirmative action in university applications and admissions, ASPPH has pivoted our approaches to recruitment and admissions.

Organizational Focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at ASPPH

The Community and Belonging (CAB) group at ASPPH consists of staff members who volunteer to raise awareness about important issues around diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusive excellence, ensuring everyone at ASPPH feels included. The CAB group organizes training sessions and supports activities that help build a strong and positive work environment, all while staying true to their values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice.
