Join ASPPH, virtually or in-person, on October 19 from 12:00 PM -4:00 PM ET at a special event, Healing Our Planet: A Call to Action on Climate and Health Inequity with public health leaders from the Office of the US Surgeon General, Project ECHO, and other expert panelists. Learn how to engage climate and health equity action in your communities, at work, and as first responders.
The purpose of this event – which is organized by Climate, Action, Readiness, Equity (CARE), an initiative of members of the United States Public Health Service – is to provide opportunities for public health and other professionals to meet and hear from organizations and leaders working in the climate and equity space.
The audience will learn about the CARE (Climate Action, Readiness, and Equity) initiative and the potential impacts of a coordinated effort to improve USPHS Commissioned Corps’ ability to address climate action, climate-related disaster response readiness, and the health and equity impacts of climate change.
The audience will see short segments of the Invisible Corps film and hear from the filmmaker to understand the value, capacity, and impact that the USPHS Commissioned Corps has had in addressing major public health crises throughout history. The panel discussion to follow, with prominent national leaders, will then address the critical role of public health professionals and others in addressing one of the greatest threats facing our nation today – the climate crisis and related health inequities.
United States Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps officers in the DC metro area are invited as are public land managers and other members of the public working on climate and health equity issues at the local, state, and federal levels.
ASPPH will host a table at the event detailing our work on Climate Change and Health.
