Public Health Shines Among Interprofessional Award Winners

The Public Health Service (PHS) Commissioned Officers Foundation for the Advancement of Public Health (COF) and the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) cosponsor the annual IPEC/COF Excellence in IPE Collaboration Award. The 2023 award winners included the following public health professionals who were celebrated this year, along with their interprofessional colleagues, at the June 30, 2023 Summer 2023 IPEC Membership Meeting & IPEC/COF Award Ceremony in Washington, DC.

  • Dr. Lorraine Alexander (UNC) and colleagues featured for The Rural Interprofessional Health Initiative (RIPHI) and Carolina Student Services Corps (overall winner)
  • Dr. José F. Cordero (Georgia) and colleagues featured for Modeling Collaborative Interprofessional Care through a Mass Outbreak Simulation (honorable mention)
  • Dr. Jessica Kruger (University at Buffalo) and colleagues featured for University at Buffalo’s Lighthouse Clinic: Reducing Barriers to Care and the Impact of Social Determinants of Health (honorable mention)

Rear Admiral Randall J.F. Gardner (COF) and Lieutenant Commander Kodilichi Echeozo (PHS) presented the awards.

Dr. Laura Magaña, ASPPH President and CEO, also moderated a panel session at the event, From Surviving to Thriving: Building Resilience in Teams and Communities, featuring interprofessional partners, Dr. Kimberly Battle (VCU) and Dr. Hossein Khalili (University of Wisconsin-Madison).
