Honoring Remarkable Leadership in Academic Public Health

This summer marks a moment of reflection and celebration for the academic public health community as we recognize several distinguished deans who are entering new chapters of their lives. Their visionary leadership has left a profound impact on public health education, research, and practice, and their legacies will continue to inspire generations of public health professionals.

We extend our deep appreciation to Dr. Linda Fried (Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health), Dr. Lynn Goldman (George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health), and Dr. Ellen MacKenzie (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health), each of whom are stepping down after years of exceptional service. These leaders have shaped public health scholarship, advanced health equity, and strengthened our collective ability to confront global health challenges. Their mentorship and innovation have left an indelible mark on the ASPPH community and the broader field.

We also recognize Dr. DuBois Bowman, who is stepping down as Dean of the University of Michigan School of Public Health to assume the presidency of Morehouse College. Dr. Bowman’s tenure was defined by his unwavering commitment to diversity, innovation, and academic excellence. We commend his trailblazing leadership and congratulate him on this historic appointment.

Please join us in celebrating these remarkable individuals for their enduring dedication to academic public health and their invaluable contributions to building a healthier, more equitable world.
