ASPPH submitted written testimony to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies (Labor-HHS-ED), urging robust federal investment in public health for Fiscal Year (FY) 2026. The testimony, which mirrors ASPPH’s House testimony submitted in April, calls for sustained and strategic funding to strengthen academic-led research, prevention, and workforce development efforts across the country.

In its testimony, ASPPH emphasized the need to fully fund key federal public health agencies, including at least $51.3 billion for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), $11.5 billion for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and $10.5 billion for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). ASPPH also advocated for continued support of the CDC’s Prevention Research Centers (PRC) and HRSA’s Public Health Training Centers (PHTC), which translate academic research into actionable community health improvements.

Additionally, ASPPH highlighted the importance of investments in workforce development, healthcare delivery research, global health initiatives, and disease elimination programs such as the proposed National Hepatitis C Elimination Program.

ASPPH will continue engaging with Congress throughout the year to advance public health priorities and defend critical funding, even amid anticipated federal budget constraints.
