ASPPH Staff Connect with Students to Better Understand the Graduate School Journey

This week, ASPPH staff had the opportunity to meet with current and prospective public health students in the DC area to learn more about how students explore graduate education opportunities, search for programs, and use available resources throughout the decision-making process. ASPPH also continues to support students through its Student Journey resources and the This Is Public Health® (TIPH) initiative, which provide tools and guidance for every stage of the public health education and career pathway.

Participants shared thoughtful feedback about how they first discovered public health programs, what information they look for when comparing schools, and the challenges they experience while navigating the graduate school search process. Students also discussed the types of resources they find most helpful, including career information, program details, student experiences, and centralized tools that make it easier to explore opportunities across the public health education landscape.

These insights will help inform future ASPPH resources, communications, and digital experiences aimed at better supporting prospective and current public health students. The conversations also reinforced the importance of listening directly to students as ASPPH continues to improve how it connects learners with information, resources, and opportunities across the field of public health.

ASPPH recognizes the importance of elevating student voices and experiences across the field of public health. Through student stories and profiles, ASPPH continues to highlight the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and aspirations that shape the public health community and inspire the next generation of public health leaders.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to participate and share their experiences, perspectives, and ideas.
