ASPPH Meets with New White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention

Laura Magaña, ASPPH’s President & CEO, was honored to meet with Rob Wilcox of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention recently along with Dean Sandro Galea (BU), the Chair of ASPPH’s Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.

Last month, President Biden established the new office which will focus on implementing executive and legislative action, including the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, to reduce gun violence across the country.

Our Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, which launched in 2022, released a framework earlier this year aimed at encouraging better engagement by ASPPH in preventing gun violence. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of collaboration with academic public health partners, particularly in areas linked to data infrastructure, research, and training of the next generation of public health professionals.
