ASPPH has established a new Governmental Public Health Task Force to explore opportunities to rethink, rebuild, and strengthen the nation’s public health system through the lens of academic public health. Co-chaired by Dean Megan Ranney of Yale University and Dean Daniele Fallin of Emory University, the task force brings together academic public health leaders to identify innovative approaches to strengthening governmental public health infrastructure, rebuilding public trust, and preparing for future public health challenges.
The task force will leverage the expertise of ASPPH member institutions to explore strategies for improving public health preparedness, strengthening partnerships with governmental public health agencies, and supporting a sustainable public health workforce.
Task Force Members:
- Dr. Daniele Fallin, Co-Chair – Emory University Rollins School of Public Health
- Dr. Megan Ranney, Co-Chair – Yale School of Public Health
- Dr. Shawn Gibbs – Texas A&M School of Public Health
- Dr. Rodney Lyn – Georgia State University School of Public Health
- Dr. Nancy Messonnier – University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health
- Dr. Edith Parker – University of Iowa College of Public Health
- Dr. Keshia Pollack Porter – Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health
Through this initiative, ASPPH aims to ensure that academic public health perspectives help inform national discussions on strengthening public health systems and improving community health outcomes.
The task force’s establishment also coincides with Senator Patty Murray’s recent announcement of the Public Health for America Working Group, a separate initiative focused on developing strategies to strengthen the nation’s public health infrastructure and resilience.
