Dr. Reed Tuckson to Close ASPPH’s Annual Meeting with Insights on Trust in Public Health

ASPPH is thrilled to announce that Dr. Reed Tuckson, MD, FACP, Managing Director of Tuckson Health Connections, LLC, will deliver the closing plenary, titled Building Trust in Public Health and Science: A Call to Action, at the 2025 ASPPH Annual Meeting for Academic Public Health on March 21, 2025, from 2:15pm–3:30pm ET. Dr. Tuckson, a nationally recognized leader in public health and healthcare innovation, will explore the critical theme of building trust in public health and science, drawing on his extensive experience working with communities to improve health outcomes.

As our nation continues to grapple with challenges in health equity, misinformation, and scientific literacy, Dr. Tuckson will provide actionable strategies for strengthening the bonds between public health professionals and the communities they serve. His insights are sure to inspire and equip attendees with the tools needed to foster trust and advance health for all.

The plenary session will be moderated by Dr. Thomas LaVeist, PhD, an esteemed public health expert and Dean and Weatherhead Presidential Chair in Health Equity at the Tulane University Celia Scott Weatherhead School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. Together with Dr. Tuckson, he will engage attendees in a dialogue on the pivotal role of trust in achieving public health goals.

The session will also highlight transformative approaches to restoring trust and combating misinformation in public health. Don’t miss this opportunity to join the conversation and be part of the movement to advance public health innovation and collaboration.

About Dr. Tuckson

Currently, Dr. Tuckson’s focus is on advancing his work as a co-founder of the Black Coalition Against COVID, a multi-stakeholder and interdisciplinary effort working to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic in Washington, DC and nationally by coordinating the four historically Black medical schools, the NMA, the Cobb Institute of the NMA, the National Black Nurses Association, the National Urban League, and BlackDoctor.org.  

He is also currently focused on his work as a co-founder of the Coalition for Trust in Health and Science, a group of 90 leading organizations that unite the breadth of the health ecosystem for the purpose of enhancing trust and countering the pernicious effects of misinformation.  

About Dr. LaVeist

Dr. Thomas LaVeist is a prominent figure in public health. He currently serves as the Dean and Weatherhead Presidential Chair in Health Equity at Tulane University’s School of Public Health and Board Chair for ASPPH. He is recognized for his contributions to health equity research and policy development. His work focuses on addressing disparities in healthcare access and outcomes among various demographic groups, aiming to improve overall population health.
