Incorporating GenAI Into the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

May 15 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm

Join us for the latest session in our ASPPH Presents webinar series: Incorporating GenAI into the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. The session explored innovative ways that Generative AI (GenAI) technologies can be thoughtfully integrated into the classroom to enhance student engagement, develop critical skills, and support evidence-based learning in public health education.

Dr. Amie Patchen, a lecturer with Cornell University’s Public Health Program, presented a practical strategy for teaching evidence-based writing using a color-coding framework that helps students critically analyze complex public health interactions, which is a method proven effective even in the era of GenAI tools like ChatGPT.

Dr. Jon Zaccarini shared how the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health redesigned a key writing assignment within the Advanced MPH Online (AMPH) program by integrating ChatGPT as a reflective learning tool, encouraging students to assess AI-generated content using the SAMR technology integration model.

This session offers concrete examples of how emerging technologies can be leveraged to support student-centered learning, critical thinking, public health communication skills, and prepare students for a tech-enabled workforce.
