Register for ASPPH Presents: 2026 Midterm Election Results and Implications for Academic Public Health

ASPPH invites members and the broader academic public health community to join an upcoming ASPPH Presents webinar, 2026 Midterm Election Results and Implications for Academic Public Health, on Monday, November 16, from 1:00–2:00 PM ET. This timely discussion will examine the recent midterm election results, potential shifts in congressional leadership and federal policy priorities, and what these developments could mean for schools and programs of public health.

Moderated by Tim Leshan, MPA, ASPPH Chief External Relations and Advocacy Officer, the webinar will feature perspectives from government affairs, journalism, and academic public health:

  • Ashley Palmer, Principal, Cornerstone Government Affairs
  • Melody Schreiber, Health Contributor/Reporter with The Guardian US and Contributing Editor for The New Republic
  • Dr. Sten Vermund, MD, PhD, Dean, University of South Florida College of Public Health and Senior Associate Vice President of USF Health

Panelists will discuss how the election results could influence public health funding, research, education, and workforce development, as well as the broader federal policy landscape.

The conversation will also explore emerging challenges, opportunities for bipartisan collaboration, and strategies for engaging policymakers during the lame-duck session and the new Congress.

ASPPH encourages members to join this discussion to better understand the evolving policy environment and its implications for academic public health priorities.
