ASPPH Announces Special Supplement with Frontiers in Public Health

ASPPH is partnering with Frontiers in Public Health to launch a special supplement, Transforming Academic Public Health: Innovations in Community Engaged Practice and Curriculum Collaborations. The Call for Papers opens today, October 16, inviting submissions that highlight innovative approaches to strengthening academic-community partnerships, advancing community-engaged scholarship, and transforming public health education and practice.

Building on the previous Transforming Academia for Equity collection and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) initiative, the supplement will highlight successful models and evidence-based approaches to meaningful community engagement. It will also draw on ASPPH’s 2024 report, Fostering Community Partnerships for a Healthier World: A Call to Action and Framework, and emerging recommendations from Interfaith America.

The collection seeks case studies, research, and practical examples demonstrating how academic institutions and community partners can collaboratively address public health challenges, strengthen workforce preparation, and advance sustainable improvements in community health.

Areas of interest include the intersection of faith and health, co-creation of knowledge, collaborative capacity building, transformative academic-practice partnerships, leadership and resilience, real-time public health responsiveness, and strengthening public trust through evidence-based communication.

The guest editorial team includes Dr. Linda Alexander, ASPPH Chief Academic Officer; Dr. Rafael Perez Figueroa, Rutgers School of Public Health; and Dr. Mieka Smart, Tulane University.

ASPPH encourages faculty, researchers, practitioners, and community partners to explore the Call for Papers and consider contributing their experiences and scholarship to this important collection.
