Virtual Roundtable: Building Critical AI Literacy in Teaching Public Health Education

September 14 @ 1:00 pm 2:00 pm

Using AI effectively requires more than knowing how to prompt it—it requires knowing when to trust, question, or reject its output. This roundtable will explore how faculty are building critical AI literacy by asking students to test AI within public health contexts, compare AI-generated work with their own analysis, identify errors and limitations, and assess where AI adds value. Participants will discuss how these approaches can strengthen disciplinary knowledge, information literacy, and students’ ability to use AI with informed judgment.

Core takeaway:

AI literacy means more than knowing how to use AI; students need the disciplinary knowledge and critical judgment to evaluate when its outputs are useful, incomplete, or wrong.
