ASPPH is pleased to welcome Dr. Kurt M. Ribisl as the new Dean of the Indiana University School of Public Health–Bloomington. A nationally recognized leader in tobacco control, public health policy, and implementation science, Dr. Ribisl brings decades of experience in academic public health, research leadership, and mentorship to this role. Prior to joining Indiana University, Dr. Ribisl spent nearly 30 years at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health.
Most recently, he served as the Joan H. Gillings Distinguished Professor in the Department of Health Behavior and as Co-Director of the Cancer Prevention and Control Program at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center. Throughout his career, Dr. Ribisl has been widely recognized for advancing research that informs evidence-based public health policy and practice.
An accomplished researcher and mentor, Dr. Ribisl’s work has focused on reducing tobacco-related harm, particularly through studies examining tobacco marketing, retail environments, and emerging nicotine products. His scholarship has helped shape national conversations around tobacco regulation and prevention, while supporting the next generation of public health scholars and practitioners.
