Public Health Reports: Changes in State Laws on Suicide Prevention Training for School Staff 2002-2022

Gatekeeper training aims to prevent youth suicide, an urgent public health problem, by training people to identify warning signs and make referrals to appropriate services. Many states have enacted gatekeeper training laws (GTLs) to train school staff in suicide prevention. A new Public Health Reports study analyzed changes in state laws about suicide prevention trainings from 2002 to 2022 to evaluate their effectiveness in school-based youth suicide prevention efforts.
