ASPPH Joins APHA in Highlighting the Role of the Public Health Community During the Pandemic

ASPPH, along with the American Public Health Association (APHA), Trust for America’s Health (TFAH), and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), signed a letter addressed to ranking members of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. The letter urges them to emphasize the positive role of the public health system during the pandemic at a hearing with Dr. Anthony Fauci on June 3, 2024.

The pandemic exposed the underfunding and strain on public health agencies, which have been hampered by misinformation and legislative actions limiting their authority. The letter urges Congress to ensure sustained funding for federal public health agencies, including fully funding the Health Resources and Services Agency (HRSA)’s Public Health Workforce Loan Repayment Program and reauthorizing and strengthening the Pandemic and All-Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA).

State and national organizations can also sign onto the letter up until noon ET on May 31, 2024.
