In a statement released earlier this week, ASPPH praised the bipartisan agreement to raise the debt ceiling and the establishment of spending caps that protect critical federal programs. However, ASPPH is concerned about the rescinded public health funding intended for COVID-19 recovery and infrastructure improvements.
We will continue to urge consistent public health investments from policymakers due to the cost and life-saving benefits of public health interventions. This need for sustained funding became evident during the COVID-19 pandemic and breaking the “boom-and-bust” cycle of funding and building a resilient public health infrastructure was made even more apparent.
ASPPH will continue to collaborate with our members on advancing community health and supporting investments in public health to improve well-being. View ASPPH’s FY’24 funding recommendations for academic public health.
