ASPPH is a truly global organization, with members in eight countries and partnerships around the world. Our commitment to global engagement is rooted in the belief that addressing global health issues requires a unified effort. We engage in global action, share knowledge, and forge meaningful collaborations across continents to support our members. Together, we can make a lasting impact, strengthen public health systems, and create a healthier and more equitable world for future generations.
ASPPH is a founding member of, and serves as the Secretariat for, the Global Network for Academic Public Health (GNAPH), an alliance of seven regional associations that represent schools and programs of public health worldwide. Our goal is to enhance academic public health worldwide through mutual learning and collaborations between academic public health institutions globally in order to improve and protect the health of people and the planet.

The Riegelman TIPH Global Grant Program provides awards to academic public health institutions around the world to develop TIPH Global campaigns that increase the visibility of public health in a region outside of the US. TIPH Global projects promote awareness of public health issues, education, and career opportunities worldwide, with a specific emphasis on local communities.

GNAPH has contributed significantly to the development and early implementation of the WHO Global Competency and Outcomes Framework for the Essential Public Health Functions. ASPPH President and CEO Laura Magaña served as co-chair of the WHO subgroup that developed the framework and GNAPH has since been engaged in efforts focused on piloting and implementation following the framework’s release in 2024 as part of WHO’s National Workforce Capacity for Essential Public Health Functions Collection.
By engaging with and supporting partner regional associations, ASPPH not only develops relationships that benefit our members but also champions quality public health education worldwide. We partner with regional associations that represent schools and programs of public health in Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Southeast Asia, Australasia, the Middle East and North Africa, and India.

ASPPH is currently working with select schools of public health in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) who are interested in applying for accreditation with the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) in order to provide them with guidance and mentorship. Overseen by a group of subject matter experts from our member institutions, ASPPH will accompany these institutions along their journey toward accreditation.

ASPPH convened a task force, including subject matter experts from ASPPH and the Association of Schools of Public Health in Africa (ASPHA), which evaluated Africa CDC’s Public Health Emergency Management (PHEM) Fellowship program, producing a report with key findings and recommendations to guide further development of the fellowship and support its monitoring and evaluation.

In 2023, ASPPH led a group of ASPPH member Deans, Directors, and faculty to Cuba in order to learn about their unique model of integrated public health and healthcare and to explore possibilities for ongoing partnerships between the Cuban educational system and US schools and programs of public health.

ASPPH engages with global partners through meetings, conferences, and convenings around issues of global concern for academic public health. Covering topics such as future innovations for academic public health, health diplomacy, AI, healthy longevity, workforce development, and more – ASPPH brings an academic public health perspective to critical issues facing global health in important international forums.

Global health is the interdisciplinary approach to studying the health of populations across the world, irrespective of national or political boundaries. Students who concentrate in global health have a strong interest in examining the ways health disparities and specific risk factors affect local and global populations. Students of global health often learn how international agencies advocate for individuals, increase access to healthcare, and ensure top health standards are met around the world. In 2018, we released the Global Health Concentration Competencies for the Master of Public Health (MPH) Degree.
The ASPPH Global Engagement and Partnerships Advisory Committee advises on matters related to developing and sustaining partnerships to advance our shared goal of improving academic public health education and workforce worldwide to accomplish our vision of improved health for everyone, everywhere.
