2024 ASPPH Annual Meeting – Friday Afternoon Plenary: How Politics Impact Public Health

Banner for the 2024 ASPPH Annual Meeting discussing politics and public health.

We are pleased to announce that the 2024 ASPPH Annual Meeting final plenary session, to be held Friday, March 22, 2024, from 1:00 PM ET – 2:15 PM ET, will be A White House Correspondent and an Advocate’s Views on How Politics Impact Public Health.

Public health has been politicized in an unfortunate way, resulting in direct attacks on those who work in public health as well as an onslaught of public mis/disinformation. This session will feature a perspective from Laura Barrón-López, White House Correspondent for PBS NewsHour, on the political landscape and its impact on public health.

Barrón-López will be followed by Korey T. Johnson, JD, owner and lead consultant of Equipped Solutions, who works at the grassroots level on policy issues related to public health and will provide her perspective from working on issues including attacks on the public health authority, violence prevention, and climate change. This will be followed by a lively discussion moderated by Perry Halkitis, Dean & Hunterdon Professor, Rutgers School of Public Health.

We look forward to seeing those of you who can join us for our annual meeting on March 21-23, 2024.
