White House Pause in Grant Funding Rescinded

Earlier this week, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) announced a temporary pause on all federal grants, loans, and financial assistance programs through Memorandum M-25-13. The directive aimed to allow federal agencies to review programs and align them with recent Executive Orders and the administration’s priorities.

Following legal challenges and widespread concerns from policymakers, academic institutions, and public health organizations—including ASPPH—OMB rescinded the directive the next day through Memorandum M-25-14. This new memo formally nullifies M-25-13 and instructs agencies to consult their General Counsel regarding the implementation of the President’s Executive Orders. The reversal came after 23 state attorneys general filed lawsuits challenging the original directive.

ASPPH remains vigilant in ensuring the stability of federal grant funding, which is critical for public health research, academic programs, and workforce development. Federal grants play an essential role in advancing public health initiatives, strengthening health systems, and addressing pressing challenges.
