At ASPPH, we are inspired by the dedication of our current and former students who are driving change in communities around the world. Through our Student Stories initiative, we spotlight individuals such as Enoch Kpevor Agbo, who grew up in Ghana and is now pursuing his MPH to address global health inequities, and Vivian and Nathan Tat, who lead a STEAM and health literacy initiative in Texas.
Enoch Kpevor Agbo grew up in Ghana, where he sold kerosene to help support his family. He witnessed firsthand the effects of contaminated water, poor sanitation, and limited access to care. These challenges were more than statistics; they were part of daily life. Inspired by public health workers who responded to a cholera outbreak in Accra, Enoch realized his purpose. Now pursuing an MPH in Global Health at the University of Louisville, he is preparing to return to underserved communities with the tools to drive lasting, community-led change.
Vivian and Nathan Tat, students at the University of Texas Medical Branch, lead Taking Our Best Shot (TOBS), an initiative advancing public health and STEAM education. Their team has partnered with schools, libraries, and local organizations to promote health literacy, host community events, and encourage academic success. Through these efforts, they’ve empowered students, served vulnerable populations, and demonstrated how public health thrives through cross-sector collaboration.
Their stories reflect the passion and promise of the next generation of public health leaders. We encourage all students, faculty, and community members to submit their stories as well. Stories will help us change the narrative about the importance of public health funding and programs at the local, state, and national levels.
