Recent ASPPH Presents Webinar Explored Unique Ways to Leverage Public Health Degree

ASPPH webinar on leveraging your public health degree in unique ways featuring graduates in caps and gowns at a commencement event

Last week, we hosted the first session in our Navigating Your Public Health Career During Uncertain Times ASPPH Presents webinar series. With over 1,700 registrants, the webinar Leveraging Your Public Health Degree in Unique Ways reinforced the value of adaptability, networking, and expanding career pathways beyond traditional public health roles. A recording is also available.

Brenda Nickol, Director of Career Services at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health, moderated the discussion with Dr. Tariem Burroughs, Executive Director of External Partnerships at Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health, and Katherine Brumfield, Manager of Career Services at the Colorado School of Public Health.

The panelists emphasized the importance of identifying and communicating transferable public health skills, tailoring résumés to different industries, and expanding job searches beyond traditional roles. They highlighted opportunities in corporate wellness, consulting, and digital health and encouraged networking, professional development, and leveraging platforms like LinkedIn.

The session concluded with a Q&A, where experts addressed strategies for career pivots, job searching, and gaining relevant experience.

The Navigating Your Public Health Career During Uncertain Times series is part of ASPPH Presents webinar programming and focuses on helping students and alumni effectively translate their skills into diverse career opportunities.  ASPPH will continue to provide career development resources to support students and alumni.
