What inspired you to study public health?

What inspired me to study public health was its ability to have such a large impact on communities’ lives as well as its ability to help reduce health disparities.

What has been the single most rewarding experience of your career/studies so far?

The most rewarding experience in my career/studies was the ability to work with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde (CTGR) community through the Health and Wellness Center. Being an American Indian from CTGR, it was rewarding for me to be able to work with a community that I care deeply for.

Where did you do your practicum? What was it about?

For my practicum, I had the opportunity to work with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde (CTGR) in their Health and Wellness Center. In my internship, I helped to create materials for the Tribal Maternal, Infant, and Early Child Home Visiting (MIECHV) program. In addition, working with the Tribal MIECHV program, I had the opportunity to attend a multitude of different community outreach events.

What do you hope to accomplish in your career?

My career goals include working to improve community health outcomes through evidence-based interventions, community engagement, and outreach. Improving community health outcomes will help to reduce health disparities within marginalized and underserved communities. I will do this through the use of advocating and addressing health inequalities to promote health equity and justice. I will accomplish my goals through my interest in public health program design and evaluation
