What inspired you to study public health?

My passion for public health was ignited by my fascination with infectious diseases. Long before the pandemic, I was captivated by the intricate ways in which these tiny organisms can cause widespread harm. This curiosity, coupled with a desire to help those who are most vulnerable, led me to pursue a degree in public health. I’m particularly interested in understanding the underlying mechanisms of infectious diseases and developing strategies to prevent and control their spread, especially in underserved populations.

What has been a meaningful public health experience during your undergraduate program?

A particularly meaningful public health experience during my undergraduate program has been my role as a Research Assistant for ICER, Infection Control for Emergency Responders. This project aligns perfectly with my passion for infectious disease and public health. By contributing to research aimed at protecting emergency responders, I’m directly impacting the health and safety of frontline workers. This experience has not only allowed me to gain hands-on research skills but also to connect with a community of dedicated public health professionals.

What kind of job are you hoping to pursue after graduation?

Upon graduation, I plan to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Health with a focus on Microbiology. Ultimately, I aspire to work in a role that combines laboratory research with public health outreach. I’m particularly interested in positions at the CDC or WHO that involve investigating outbreaks, developing diagnostic tests, and implementing public health interventions. I’m also passionate about educating the public about infectious diseases and promoting preventive measures. By combining my academic knowledge with practical experience, I hope to contribute to the development of innovative solutions to address global health challenges.
