What inspired you to study public health?
I was introduced to public health through my studies in environmental science. My interests in public health program development grew as the health intern for UW-Madison’s Sustainability Initiative.
What has been the single most rewarding experience of your career/studies so far?
I have felt rewarded when I see the connections between my studies and the real life applications. It is rewarding to see how my efforts in the classroom will be used to make real changes.
What is the one piece of advice you wish someone had given you when you were starting out in public health?
How broad the field was and the varied skills needed. Looking back I realized that much of my extracurriculars had public health focuses and were directing me toward a career in public health!
What do you think is the biggest challenge that the public health field should be focusing on?
The disconnect between policies and the communities they affect often prohibits programs from being successful. The nuances of communities need to be a focus to increase efficiency.
