Lauren Morales, MPH

UCLA Jonathan and Karin Fielding School of Public Health
Community Health Sciences

What inspired you to study public health?

My childhood experiences in navigating the health care system, such as having to translate for my parents during medical/doctor visits, encouraged me to pursue health. However, when I learned about public health and the social determinants of health, I knew I wanted to pursue public health and focus on ways to improve the health of my communities.

What has been the single most rewarding experience of your career/studies so far?

Pursuing higher education and obtaining my MPH!

What do you hope to accomplish in your career?

I hope to inspire others who come from similar backgrounds as me, become a professor, and continue to give back to my community!

Advice:

Public health is so broad and that’s the beauty of is. Don’t be afraid to ask for help/clarification about what public health work/positions means to people!

If you are working, what is your job?
