Kayla Giglia, MPH

University at Albany School of Public Health
Health Policy and Management

What inspired you to study public health?

I really wanted to stay in the field of healthcare, and I realized that I could make a difference at a population-level instead of an individual-level.

What has been the single most rewarding experience of your career/studies so far?

Graduating with my MPH

Where did you do your practicum? What was it about?

NYS Department of Health – over Summer 2023, I developed a database of reproductive health supplies and resources for pregnant and parenting people who use drugs. NYS Department of Health – over Spring 2024, I helped to develop patient guidelines for abortion patients seeking care from NYS and for out-of-state visitors.

What do you hope to accomplish in your career?

I want to go back to school eventually to either get my PhD or DrPH, either focusing on research or taking steps to get into some sort of executive leadership position.
