In one sentence, what is public health to you?

To me, public health is about bridging the gaps between healthcare and health equity through education and patient empowerment.

What inspired you to study public health?

I was inspired to study public health because I want to increase awareness about the importance of preventative measures and empower people to take their health into their own hands.

What has been the single most rewarding experience of your career/studies so far?

During this pandemic, being a contact tracer has been extremely rewarding to me. It was an incredible feeling to know there was something I could do and the meaningful conversations I have had with patients will stay with me forever.

Advice:

Others may not understand the field you are going into; this does not mean you shouldn’t pursue it. Be ready and willing to educate people about public health’s importance.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that the public health field should be focusing on?
