As public health practitioners, it is important to consider culture when approaching our interactions and designing interventions and policy. Individuals and communities have their own expectations, experiences, and views of health in the same way that public health practitioners have their own beliefs and knowledge of health and the health system. The approach of cultural humility involves critical self-reflection and can lead to the development of mutual understanding and successful partnerships across cultures. This approach strengthens the ability of public health professionals to provide culturally appropriate services, plans, and policies for all communities.
