We are excited to announce the opening plenary session, Beyond the Choir: Changing the Narrative for Broader Reach, for the 2026 ASPPH Annual Meeting for Academic Public Health. Public health too often speaks to those already on our side. This session aims to explore how reframing both the message and the messenger can help us connect with audiences who are skeptical, disengaged, or simply out of reach.
Tom Frieden, MD, MPH, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives, will moderate this session and guide a conversation about reframing health narratives, elevating trusted messengers, and reaching communities that have traditionally been excluded from the dialogue.
Joining Dr. Frieden to share their perspectives on this important topic are:
- Demetre Daskalakis, MD, MPH, former director, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
- Céline Gounder, MD, ScM, FIDSA, Medical Contributor, CBS News; Editor-at-Large for Public Health, KFF Health News; and Clinical Associate Professor, NYU and Bellevue Hospital
- Brinleigh Murphy-Reuter, EdM, CEO and founder, Science to People
We hope you can join us in March. As a reminder, registration and housing are now open.
