Join ASPPH as we spotlight the honorees of the Delta Omega 2020 Innovative Curriculum Award. University of Buffalo will discuss how they are educating students on the impact incarceration has on individual and community health. UNC Gillings will review their newly revised MPH Core providing students with a consistent and solid foundation of practice-based training on which to build their concentration coursework and professional work experience in the public health workforce.
ASPPH, in partnership with APHA and the de Beaumont Foundation, will hold a special webinar to discuss communication strategies to build confidence and trust in COVID-19 vaccines. Vaccine hesitancy has led to decreased vaccination rates around the world. In response, the World Health Organization declared vaccine hesitancy as one of the top 10 threats to public health. This panel of public health leaders will address how to build confidence and trust in COVID-19 vaccines and discuss effective communication strategies, including language that works to improve vaccine acceptance.
The Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice (Council on Linkages) is in the process of reviewing and revising the Core Competencies, and this virtual meeting is an opportunity for current and prospective students of public health and other disciplines that contribute to population health to provide feedback on how the Core Competencies can better serve the public health workforce.
Can community-based work be done without physically being in the community? Drs. Derreth and Wear will discuss the coursework they designed in which public health students develop and utilize skills in evaluation in partnership with Baltimore community-based organizations. Further, we will explore the innovative instructional framework employed in this course - Critical Online Service-learning (COSL). COSL is based upon three principles, dialogic communication, cross-contextual reflections, and positioning oneself as an ally.
