“Using Research to Change The World (Or At Least Improve a Neighborhood)”

October 6, 2023 @ 7:00 am 8:00 am

The Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine and the School of Social Work are excited to host Vice Provost John M. Wallace for a guest lecture on Friday, October 6, 2023. Dr. Wallace is a renowned sociologist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh whose work over the past 30 years has focused on the well-being of African American children, youth, and communities. He has worked on vast community/university partnerships, community-based participatory research projects, ESTEAM education for young people, and the creation of social enterprises to address food access and insecurity, youth unemployment and economic development in low-income communities.

Dr. Wallace will be presenting his lecture “Using Research to Change the World (or At Least Improve a Neighborhood)” exploring his co-founding of the Homewood Children’s Village in Pittsburgh, which comprehensively serves to improve the lives of local children and reweave the fabric of the community in which they live.

Join Deans Thomas LaVeist (SPHTM) and Patrick Bordnick (SSW) for this lecture.
