The Skin You’re In – Virtual Film Screening

December 4, 2025 @ 6:30 pm 8:00 pm

A free virtual screening of “The Skin You’re In”, a documentary addressing why Black Americans live sicker and die younger than others.

You are invited to a free virtually-streamed screening of “The Skin You’re In”, a poignant documentary that addresses the stark reality that Black Americans live sicker and die younger than any other ethnic group in the nation.

Why is this happening? The Skin You’re In investigates this phenomenon from various angles. Through discussions with leading health experts and researchers we bring light to the realities of the issue and highlight health problems firsthand in the everyday lives of Black families telling their stories. We meet extraordinary individuals who are indeed valued health experts — people taking positive action to heal their lives, their families, and their communities.

The screening will be followed by a real-time Q&A session with Writer and Director, Thomas LaVeist, along with Scheron Bryant Jr. and Tevon Robinson, two men from the film who share their personal stories. This discussion will provide deeper insights into how history, policy, and personal narratives intersect to shape today’s health outcomes.

Special Guest Moderator: Award-winning journalist, Dean Meminger

The Q&A session will be moderated by New York City journalist, Dean Meminger, known for his insightful reporting and deep commitment to storytelling. Born in Harlem and raised in The Bronx, Spectrum News NY1 Anchor and Criminal Justice Reporter Dean Meminger has delivered the news for more than 30 years on TV and radio. A NY1 staff member since 1997, Dean covers the police and all things criminal justice. He is often in the anchor chair when breaking news happens. He considers it an honor to deliver the news to his friends, family, and neighbors.
