Foundations of AI in Public Health Education: Concepts, Context, and Readiness
February 18 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

As artificial intelligence continues to shape teaching, learning, and academic operations, public health educators and administrators need a shared foundation to engage productively with these tools.
This introductory-to-intermediate online training will prepare participants for ASPPH’s upcoming advanced Skill-Building Workshop (SBW), Beyond the Basics: Practical Applications of AI for Academic Public Health, at the 2026 ASPPH Annual Meeting. The session will establish core concepts, shared vocabulary, and representative use cases related to AI in public health education.
While designed as a foundation for the SBW, the training is open to public health faculty, academic administrators and staff, students, and partners who are interested in building a baseline understanding of AI in academic public health. The training is free for registrants of the Beyond the Basics workshop and available for $99 to others.
The online training will provide an overview of the current AI landscape, including commonly used tools and applications relevant to teaching, advising, assessment, and academic administration. Participants will also explore foundational pedagogical and ethical considerations, such as academic integrity, equity, accessibility, and responsible and ethical use, with a focus on implications for schools and programs of public health. In addition, the online training will highlight emerging trends and practical scenarios that illustrate how AI is already being applied across higher education, public health, and the workforce.
By the end of the training, participants will have a clearer understanding of what AI can and cannot do, how it intersects with educational practice, and how to critically assess opportunities and risks. This shared baseline will enable attendees to engage more deeply in the Beyond the Basics: Practical Applications of AI for Academic Public Health Skill-Building Workshop on March 18 at the 2026 ASPPH Annual Meeting. The SBW will focus on advanced tools, hands-on application, and implementation strategies.
The recorded online training and supplemental resources will be made available on ASPPH’s eLearn platform and accessible to those who register for the event and the March 18 AI skill-building workshop. Communications will be sent to registrants to gain access to ASPPH’s eLearn following the training.
