February 6 @ 2:00 pm 3:00 pm EST

Join us for an engaging session to learn more about the careers of collaborative biostatisticians! A collaborative biostatistician is a professional in the field of biostatistics who works closely with researchers, scientists, and healthcare professionals in the fields of basic science, medicine, clinical trials, epidemiology, public health, and many other areas within the life sciences. Collaborative biostatisticians serve as invaluable partners in team science. Through their contributions, collaborative biostatisticians not only bolster the scientific integrity of studies but also empower teams to make informed decisions that can shape public health policies and interventions.

Join the panelists as they share their career paths and delve into the specific roles and responsibilities of collaborative biostatisticians in the realm of team science. They will share insights, experiences, and advice to help guide aspiring professionals.

We invite you to learn more about collaborative biostatisticians and their contributions to the advancement of public health and scientific research.

Speakers

Lianbo Yu, PhD
Associate Professor
The Ohio State University

Lianbo Yu is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics with a courtesy appointment in the College of Public Health at The Ohio State University. He earned his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2006 and began his journey as a collaborative biostatistician at OSU immediately following his graduation. His primary research is dedicated to addressing fundamental biological and medical questions by harnessing the power of high-throughput genomics data. Over the past two decades, he has cultivated substantial expertise in collaborative team science endeavors, closely partnering with scientists and healthcare professionals to unveil previously undiscovered molecular mechanisms and identify novel therapeutic targets for combatting cancers and other diseases. He has developed advanced statistical methodologies capable of effectively navigating a spectrum of design complexities and analytical challenges inherent in diverse biomedical studies. He has published over 160 papers. Furthermore, he accumulated extensive experience in successfully applying for and securing grants from federal agencies as a collaborative biostatistician, assuming the role of a co-investigator on numerous funded awards.

Jeff Pan, PhD
Associate Professor
The Ohio State University

Dr. Jeff Pan is an Associate Professor at The Ohio State University, holding positions in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Center for Biostatistics, College of Public Health, and School of Health and Rehabilitation Science. He earned his Ph.D. from OSU in 2008 and has been working in the Center for Biostatistics as a collaborative researcher since then. Dr. Pan has B.S. in Environmental Engineering and M.S. degree in Civil Engineering and had worked for more than 4 years as a project engineer before he pursued his career in Biostatistics. He has developed more than 40 clinical trial protocols and been funded by more than 40 grants awarded from NIH, DoD, CDC and other agencies/companies as a collaborative biostatistician and co-investigator.
