Departments of Education and Justice Release New Guidance on Admissions Policies

Departments of Education and Justice Logos

Earlier this week, the Department of Education (ED) and Department of Justice (DOJ) released new guidance to help institutions of higher education navigate the legal landscape following the Supreme Court’s decision to end race-conscious admissions. The guidance includes a Q&A document that provides information on lawful admissions policies, consistent with the recent decision.

ED and DOJ also released an accompanying “Dear Colleague” letter that calls on the higher education community to “seize the opportunity to expand access to educational opportunity for all students and to build diverse student bodies, including by recognizing and valuing students who have overcome adversity.”

Please also save the date and time of September 11, 2023 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM EST for an upcoming ASPPH Presents webinar on what the new admissions landscape means for academic public health. More information will be made available about the webinar later this month.
