Congratulations to Utah Public Health for Receiving Funds in Support of CDC’s National DIS Certification Project

ASPPH is pleased to recognize and celebrate the University of Utah Division of Public Health,  which has received funding to support the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) Certification Project. Implemented by the ASPPH Center for Public Health Workforce Development, the Certified in Disease Intervention (CDI) Program advances CDC’s efforts to professionalize and standardize the disease intervention workforce.

This funding award reflects the essential role academic public health plays in strengthening and modernizing the nation’s public health workforce. By establishing a national certification, the CDI Program promotes consistent competencies, enhances workforce readiness, and supports high-quality public health services across jurisdictions. Disease intervention professionals are critical to preventing and controlling infectious diseases, and this initiative represents an important investment in their training, development, and long-term career pathways.

ASPPH congratulates the University of Utah Division of Public Health (Utah Public Health) on being selected as a funding opportunity awardee for this project. Through this award, they will assess the feasibility of developing a Disease Intervention (DI) Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP). If feasible, a proposed program will be designed to align with national apprenticeship standards and the Certified in Disease Intervention (CDI) credential.
