ASPPH’s Continued Commitment to GNAPH and Global Academic Public Health

Since its inception as an informal network through to its formal establishment in 2020, Dr. Laura Magaña, President and CEO of ASPPH, served as the Founding President of the Global Network for Academic Public Health (GNAPH), an alliance of seven regional associations that represent schools and programs of public health worldwide. Upon the recent completion of her term, Dr. Magaña passed the presidency to Dr. John Middleton, representing the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER).

GNAPH also welcomed a new President-Elect, Prof. Wah Yun Low, representing the Asia-Pacific Academic Consortium for Public Health.

During the past five years, GNAPH signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the World Health Organization (WHO), advocated for funding for academic public health, advanced initiatives to strengthen education in public health globally, launched the Riegelman This is Public Health (TIPH) Global Grant Program, and represented the important work of academic public health in forums around the world. Read more about GNAPH’s accomplishments in the 2025 President’s Report.

Dr. Magaña will continue to serve on the GNAPH Board of Directors, and ASPPH looks forward to continuing our involvement with GNAPH as an organizational member. Global action is a key initiative of ASPPH, and we remain deeply committed to strengthening academic public health worldwide.
