ASPPH is pleased to welcome five new fellows who will engage in practice-based training assignments through the ASPPH/EPA Environmental Health Fellowship Program. The Program aims to provide professional training and opportunities for early-career public health professionals to be involved with the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on current and emerging environmental public health needs. This next generation of public health leaders will have an opportunity to train under nationally recognized experts who work to protect human health and the environment.
EPA leads the nation’s environmental science, research, education, and assessment efforts. Since 1970, EPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the American people and is the country’s primary developer of environmental policy and rule-making decisions. For the next 12 to 24 months, the fellows will round out their academic training and gain practical environmental health experience while contributing to the nation’s environmental science, research, education, and assessment efforts.
ASPPH/EPA Fellow Burnley Truax, MPH (University of Michigan School of Public Health) shares, “As an ASPPH/EPA Environmental Health fellow, I am impassioned to use my MPH degree in Environmental Health Sciences to minimize harmful exposures in communities that have historically been overburdened by environmental contamination. I wanted to pursue this fellowship to learn how different Public Health entities work together to advance Environmental Health through regulation, policy, and funding mechanisms.”
ASPPH/EPA Fellow Sierra Brantz, MPH (University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health) adds, “I believe my ASPPH/EPA Fellowship will lay the foundation for my public health career to work in the field of international environmental health and climate health while providing opportunities to involve the community and grow in my public health monitoring and evaluation skills.”
ASPPH would like to thank our partners at the EPA for supporting this important training program. Learn more about the ASPPH/EPA Environmental Health Fellowship Program or email TrainingPrograms@aspph.org for additional information.
