ASPPH is proud to share the key achievements outlined in our 2024 Annual Report. The report showcases a year defined by strategic leadership, impactful advocacy, and a commitment to advancing academic public health. This year, ASPPH’s initiatives were pivotal in reinforcing our mission to address global health challenges, champion workforce development, and uphold excellence in education, research, and practice.
Advancing Solutions to Critical Public Health Challenges
ASPPH made significant strides in tackling major public health concerns:
- Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ): We deepened our commitment to inclusive excellence by launching the Building Inclusive Excellence through an Anti-racism Lens report as part of our Framing the Future 2030 initiative and collaborating with partners to create the Institute for Innovation, Discovery, and Excellence in Academia (IIDEA). These efforts underscore our dedication to fostering environments where diversity and equity thrive.
- Gun Violence Prevention: ASPPH engaged with the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention and advocated for federal funding to support research in this area. Key initiatives included convening congressional meetings and collaborating with partners to strengthen policy efforts.
- Climate Change and Health: Recognizing climate change as an urgent health issue, ASPPH joined global discussions, supported educational frameworks, and developed competencies to prepare future public health leaders to respond effectively.
Championing Workforce Development
ASPPH’s efforts to build a robust public health workforce were highlighted by:
- The launch of the Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) Certification in partnership with the CDC and collaborations aimed at supporting recruitment and training.
- Expanded fellowship programs that provided invaluable hands-on experiences and supported graduates through initiatives like the Tribal Fellowship Program set to launch in 2025.
Global Engagement and Academic Excellence
ASPPH maintained its leadership in global public health through active participation in international initiatives and advocacy for programs like the Fogarty International Center. The Global Competency and Outcomes Framework, developed with the World Health Organization (WHO), emphasized our role in shaping public health education worldwide.
