Earlier this month, Dr. Laura Magaña, President & CEO of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH), Dr. Gerard Carrino, Dean of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Julia Jones Matthews School of Population and Public Health (TTUHSC), and Elizabeth Weist, ASPPH’s Director of Education, attended the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Summer 2024 Membership Meeting and IPEC/COF Award Ceremony in Washington, DC.

IPEC, which promotes teamwork across different health professions to improve patient care, regularly updates its core competencies to guide institutions in preparing students for collaborative practice in healthcare settings. ASPPH, a co-founder of IPEC, plays a crucial role in this mission, emphasizing the value of interprofessional education.

At the event, Dr. Magaña, an IPEC board member, led a session on interprofessional scholarship and research, highlighting the significance of collaborative efforts in healthcare education.

We also congratulate the following ASPPH members for winning three of this year’s IPEC/COF Excellence in IPE Collaboration Awards:

  • Dr. Asim Abu-Baker and team (Texas A&M School of Public Health) received the overall award based on their extraordinary service in Operation Border Health Preparedness work.
  • Dr. Jessica Kruger and team (University at Buffalo School of Public Health and Health Professions) received an honorable mention in educating students about bleeding and clotting disorders.
  • Dr. Lisa Benz Scott,  Ms. Gabriella Pandolfelli, and team (Stony Brook University School of Public Health) received an honorable mention for their innovative Healthy Libraries Program, which brings health services to the community through libraries.
