The Importance of Accreditation for Schools and Programs of Public Health

ASPPH proudly represents member schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Accreditation is crucial for a strong public health system, and students choosing accredited programs when pursuing public health degrees will benefit greatly.

CEPH is an independent agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit schools and programs in public health. Accredited degrees include those at baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Accreditation signifies that a school or program meets standards for educational quality, qualified faculty, and adequate resources, ensuring students receive the skills needed for the workforce and positioning them for successful careers in public health.

Graduating from an accredited program opens doors to certifications, funding opportunities, and employment, including positions with the US Public Health Service, the US military, and some government agencies, which require graduates from CEPH-accredited programs.

As a founding corporate sponsor of CEPH, along with the American Public Health Association (APHA), ASPPH’s involvement with CEPH includes appointing councilors to their board and collaborating closely to promote high-quality accreditation standards. ASPPH supports criteria and procedures that align with school and program goals, fulfilling societal expectations for excellence in education.
