Chief Operating Officer

Ariel joined the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) as chief operating officer in November 2024. As COO. She is responsible for leading organization’s operations including finance, membership development, meetings administration, and human resources. She contributes to key strategic and operational priorities, including strategic planning, organizational effectiveness, efficiency, innovation, integrity, and sense of belonging. Ariel also works collaboratively on the executive leadership team and staff to align and lead business operations in support of the ASPPH Vision 2030 strategic framework.


Prior to joining ASPPH, Ariel was chief operating officer at the de Beaumont Foundation. During her 13-year tenure at de Beaumont, she developed and implemented innovative strategies to drive substantial impact and growth. She was responsible for building financial and operational systems for the foundation from the ground up, including the creation of funding collaboratives, program related investments, and a public charity. As COO, Ariel oversaw grant applications and reporting; built a strong organizational culture; solved complex challenges with entrepreneurial thinking; and optimized operational and financial processes. With a history of strong Board and CEO relations, she was also a valued partner in developing the organization’s strategic mission and vision.

 

Before joining de Beaumont, Ariel was a member of the senior leadership team at the National Children’s Museum, where she was responsible for the communications, membership, and web departments. She developed and oversaw the implementation of comprehensive communications and marketing plans and was responsible for the creation of the museum’s brand and identity. She was also an active member of the museum’s executive fundraising team supporting the organization’s $182 million capital campaign. In addition to her public relations and development work, Ariel was instrumental in several management initiatives at the museum: She led the creation of the project’s three-year, $130 million capital budget, worked closely with executive leadership to create the museum’s business plan, and developed a new annual evaluation process for all employees.

 

Prior to joining the National Children’s Museum, Ariel was with the Washington Regional Association of Grantmakers, where she managed all media relations and marketing activities for the association and provided communications counsel to more than 120 foundations and corporate giving programs. She began her career in the private sector, working on a variety of public awareness campaigns and corporate social responsibility programs—first at Widmeyer Communications and later at Cone, LLC.


Ariel holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Oberlin College and a Master of Science degree in nonprofit management from the University of Maryland.
