This week, ASPPH hosted the 2023 ASPPH Sections Retreat in St. Louis, MO. Over 300 attendees from our Academic Affairs, Data, Diversity & Inclusion, Finance & Administration, Marketing & Communications, Practice, Research, and Student Affairs Sections joined us, making this our largest Sections Retreat to date.
The retreat began with an opening plenary session titled, “Dismantling the Root Causes of Social Justice Disparities in Public Health.” The session was moderated by Amy Fairchild, dean of the Ohio State University College of Public Health, and featured framing remarks from Perry N. Halkitis, ASPPH board chair and dean of the Rutgers School of Public Health, followed by a panel discussion. In addition to the plenary and general sessions, each Section hosted sessions developed specifically for their group.
We are truly grateful to all our Sections members who participated in the retreat and for their willingness to share their experiences and expertise with their colleagues.
