The Fogarty International Center and the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research at NIH are holding the David E. Barmes Global Health Lecture 2024 on June 5 at 1:00 PM ET. Titled, Global HIV/AIDS Response: Then, Now, Future, this lecture will be given by Ambassador Dr. John Nkengasong, U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and Senior Bureau Official for Global Health Security and Diplomacy, in which role he oversees the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR).

The David E. Barmes Global Health Lecture series honors the late David Edward Barmes, special expert for international health at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR).
Dr. John N. Nkengasong is an Ambassador at Large and serves as the U.S. Department of State’s U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator and Senior Bureau Official for Global Health Diplomacy. In this role, Dr. Nkengasong oversees the PEPFAR, the largest commitment by any nation to address a single disease in history, prevent millions of HIV infections, save lives, and make progress toward ending the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
