Vanderbilt: Buntin Named Deputy Editor of JAMA Health Forum

Dr. Melinda Buntin, Mike Curb Professor of Health Policy and chair of the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named deputy editor of JAMA Health Forum, a new online channel published by JAMA Network.

JAMA Health Forum will focus on health policy and health strategy issues affecting medicine and health care.

“I look forward to furthering the national health policy debate through this venture,” said Dr. Buntin. “It’s our hope to quickly make JAMA Health Forum an authoritative, influential resource with high-quality health policy and health strategy content for a broad audience — clinicians, health policy experts, policy makers and the general public.”

Content will include health policy articles and multimedia content from across JAMA and the JAMA Network journals. Blog posts from experts in the field will offer commentary on current events, research, opinion and controversial issues with implications for national and global health policy.

News brief summaries will cover major reports from foundations and governmental and nongovernmental agencies. The JAMA Forum, an existing collection of opinion posts from leading health care strategists, also will be moved to the new channel.

Dr. John Ayanian, director of the Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, has been named JAMA Health Forum editor.

In their leadership roles, Drs. Ayanian and Buntin will offer additional comment on articles published in JAMA and the JAMA Network that appear on the channel.

JAMA Health Forum is the foundation for a standalone journal publishing original research and commentary on health care policy, strategy, delivery and economics worldwide expected to launch in 2021.
