UCLA Professor Receives Toxicology Education Award

Dr. Oliver Hankinson, distinguished research professor of environmental health sciences in the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been named recipient of the 2019 Society of Toxicology Education Award.

The award recognizes a teacher and trainer who has made significant contributions to education in the broad field of toxicology, which is the study of the adverse effects of chemical, physical or biological agents on living organisms and the ecosystem, including the prevention and amelioration of such adverse effects. The society, which is an organization comprised of scientists from academic institutions, government and industry who practice toxicology, will present Hankinson with the award at its annual meeting on March 10 in Baltimore, Maryland. Hankinson was previously awarded the 2011 Society of Toxicology Distinguished Toxicology Scholar Award in recognition of his research accomplishments.

In addition to his appointment at the Fielding School, Hankinson is also professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and chair of the molecular toxicology interdepartmental doctoral program, which he helped found in 2000. Hankinson is also a member of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center.
