UCLA Professor Appointed to National Research Institute’s Advisory Panel

Dr. Catherine Crespi, professor-in-residence of biostatistics at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been appointed by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute as a member of its advisory panel on clinical trials.

Dr. Crespi, who is also a member of the UCLA Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, will advise the organization on strategies for the design and implementation of clinical trials.

The institute is a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to fund research that provides patients and clinicians with the evidence-based information they need to make informed healthcare decisions.

Panel members include patients, family caregivers, clinicians, drug and device makers and researchers.

“It is an honor to serve on this panel and make an impact on the quality of research affecting so many people,” Dr. Crespi said. “These research projects will help clarify which health care options work best.”

Dr. Crespi is an expert in statistical methods for the design and analysis of randomized controlled trials. Her research focuses on cancer prevention and control, cancer epidemiology, cancer survivorship, HIV/AIDS, obesity, mental health, behavioral medicine, health psychology and quality of life.
